News Release - Magna Produces Five Millionth Axle Drive for Volkswagen
LANNACH, Austria, January 28, 2014 – Magna International Inc. announced that its Magna Powertrain operating unit, the largest global independent 4WD/AWD supplier, celebrated a noteworthy milestone for its Austrian manufacturing divisions: the 5-millionth axle drive manufactured for Volkswagen vehicles since production began in 2003. Magna supplies one of Volkswagen’s global platforms with parts shared across several brands.
At start of production for Volkswagen, Magna Powertrain plants in Lannach and Ilz initially supplied the VW Golf and the Audi A3. In the following years, production was supplemented by other models. This additional business led to a rapid increase in production volume, and in 2012, Magna Powertrain reached the 1-million mark for the year, a production record for its Lannach facility.
“Today we are celebrating a long standing relationship with VW which started in the 1990s and now we are writing another chapter in our successful history,” said Jake Hirsch, President Magna Powertrain. “We have been developing and manufacturing custom-made axle drives in Austria for our customers for over ten years. This production milestone demonstrates our far-reaching capabilities in delivering innovative powertrain systems as well as the confidence our clients place in us.”
